Jeep Wrangler JK 2007-18
Seal Cleaning & Reconditioning
maintenance • all jeeps • repeatable routine
Seal cleaning and reconditioning keeps Jeep seals sealing: wash, prep, condition, then repeat across key seal zones every two months to reduce leak bypass and wind noise.
If seals are dirty or dried out, water can bypass contact surfaces. This routine applies to OEM seals and the added body-side seal included with Wrangler Weather Guard™.
Important: This step is not optional. Your Jeep’s seals are the sealing system. Maintain them about every 2 months for best results.
Applies to OEM seals and the added Wrangler Weather Guard™ body-side seal included in your kit.
Step 1 — Wash (Soap + Water) Remove dirt and grime first.
- Wash the seal surface with mild soap and water to remove grime.
- Wipe clean and rinse off soap.
- Dry fully with a clean towel before Step 2.
Step 2 — Prep (Provided “Cleaner”) Strip film and prep the contact surface.
- Apply a small amount of Cleaner to a towel (not directly into gaps).
- Wipe the seal thoroughly along the full contact surface.
- Let it air-dry until the seal feels dry to the touch.
Step 3 — Restore (Provided “Conditioner”) Recondition rubber for better sealing performance.
- Apply a small amount of Conditioner to a clean towel.
- Wipe a thin, even coat across seal contact surfaces.
- Let it absorb, then lightly buff off any excess residue.
Tip: Thin coats work best. Avoid leaving wet residue behind.
Seal zones (repeat Steps 1–3 on each) Do all that apply, including the added body-side seal.
OEM door seals (all doors)
Primary clamp surfaces for wind + water control.
Windshield top header seal
Common bypass area after dust, sun, and washes.
Freedom Panel / front of rear hardtop interface
High-leverage zone—keep contact faces clean and conditioned.
Rear hardtop seals
Maintain perimeter contact surfaces.
Rear glass closing seal(s)
Keep the closing edge clean to prevent bypass.
Rear tailgate body seal
Often overlooked; dirt film reduces sealing performance.
Wrangler Weather Guard™ added body-side seal
Treat it like OEM: clean, prep, condition.
Recommended frequency
Repeat the full process about every 2 months. Do it sooner after heavy rain exposure, dusty off-road use, or repeated car washes.

Maintenance note: Seal health is part of the sealing system. Consistency beats “one-time fixes.”
